For the most part, I was in serious relationships during my early adult life. Looking back, I can say that even the men who took me off the market ended up being douchebags. The first boyfriend I ever had ended up screwing me over financially and left me greatly in debt. My second boyfriend graduated from law school and broke up with me right upon graduating. Then, he decided to move on to someone new just two months later, after I invested four years of life, let alone my early 20s, with him. I can say now that even datinh the end was bittersweet, the beginning was amazing, and I will never regret spending some of my most valuable years with them. Now, you might ask yourself what led me to think that dating a douchebag might actually be a beneficial experience.

How can you tell if your boyfriend is really a douchebag? For one, he will make you feel like crud most of the time and to top it off he will make you think that it is all your fault. Oh no. That is not how the game is dkuchebag. As long as you are miserable, that son of a gun is happy.

However, my biggest weakness was my failure to pay attention to the signs. I would get myself so hyped up on the idea of a possible relationship that I missed all the obvious red flags. So, to help you avoid making the same mistakes I did and ending up with a douchebag, here are some of the signs to look for when dating in your 20s. If he does not return your text or call within 24 hours or even within four to six hours , his lack of expression is an obvious hint at his disinterest.

While it may sound harsh, men are rather simple. Selfish Machine. If you are splitting the bill more than half of the time, run. The same goes for his family. Meeting family members and close friends is a big step in a relationship. If he has to work weekends, this might be understandable. He has no intention of bringing you into his life, taking you out, introducing you to his friends, getting to know you, etc. If you sense a man trying to make you his booty call, give him one last ring, and hit it and quit it for yourself.

The only way you will ever really know what type of man you really want is by dating and being in all types of relationships, with different types of men. By different types, I literally mean men of different races, nationalities, ages, interests, etc. I look back and remember thinking I was a victim in my relationships with these douchebags. A man will go as far as you let him. Men are like little kids. If you take their toys away, they will miss them and want them back.

If they play with their toy too often, without the chance to miss it, they will get bored of it and toss it away all too quickly, no matter how fun, pretty, or cool that toy was. The world of dating is like a game - you have to know how to play it.

The more douchebags you date, the more you become aware of the common games they play. Keep repelling the gnats. But ya know what? He makes you feel so needy. Maybe I really should give him more space, you think. But really, it is not like you want him over to snuggle every night. Just this night to help you get over the stress. It would be nice if he was actually there for you when you needed him most.

Tonight, though, was the very last straw. You needed him to come get you at the car shop after you dropped off your car for inspection in the morning. It was getting dark out already and he promised you he would be there. After several creepy cars slowing down to look at you, you knew it was no longer safe to be hanging out in a parking lot all alone so you gave him one last call.

He finally picks up and tells you he just remembered he had to pick you up and that he would be there in 30 minutes. Since you would have to wait that long for your mom to get there, you decide to give him those 30 minutes and get a ride home with him.

Afterwards, he can just leave. You just got home from work. You call your boyfriend up and see if he wants to come over. As you wait for him to get there, you take a quick rinse off in the shower, thinking about where the two of you could go out to eat tonight.

Your boyfriend is a few minutes later than usual and it looks like he stopped and got fast food on his way over. Great, you think to yourself. He stopped and got you both something to eat at home. He sits down at the kitchen table and pulls out a cheeseburger and fries. Then he crumples up the bag as it slowly dawns on you that he went and got just himself something to eat. You stare at him in total disbelief. You just had the most awesome day at work. When you get back to your apartment, you call up your boyfriend and try and tell him all about it.

As soon as you start in, he cuts you off. A few days later, he is over for a visit. You sit down with him on the couch and ask him what his goals are for the future.

He looks at you like you are whacked, shrugs, and then turns on the television. If not, move on to someone who can handle a conversation. You want to go out to the movies tonight, but he wants to go to the sports bar. Where do you wind up? At the sports bar. You want to have a picnic with friends. He would rather stay home and invite the guys over for some video games.

Guess what? What he wants, he gets. And it happens over and over again. If you want to do something that he is not interested in, it is a no go.

However, if he wants to do something you are not thrilled about, he gets it. Maybe you should stop giving into him all the time. The two of you are going to the pizza shop down the road. You throw on a pair of yoga pants and a t-shirt. Meanwhile, your boyfriend is standing in front of the mirror, fixing his hair. You put your own hair back in a ponytail and wait for another ten minutes for your guy to be done with his preening. When you get into the car, you start the engine and he pulls down the car mirror.

Again, he is fiddling with his hair until you pull up to the pizza shop. Is he ready to go in yet? The two of you get out of the car, but before you can open the pizza shop door, he runs his fingers through his hair again and checks out his reflection in the glass. His constant need to primp and preen is getting annoying. Why should he care so much about his looks when the two of you are supposed to be a couple?

It is your first Christmas together. You bought a little tree for your apartment and already bought your boyfriend a few gifts, wrapped them, and placed them under the tree. You are so excited for the big day to come. After that, though, you are planning on having him for the evening meal and present opening. By evening, you are waiting around, hoping he will show up soon. Hours go by and he continues to ignore you. It dawns on you that he had no plans on spending the holiday with you.

You have three really heavy boxes you need to move out to your car. You asked your boyfriend to help you out yesterday and he said sure, later, and then forgot about it. You really need to get those boxes out and so you call him up and ask him to come over and help. His line rings and you are sent straight to voicemail. You leave a message and wait. Two hours later, you text him and wait again. This is not the first time he has ditched you when you needed his help with something.

She has a teenage son who will help you out for a quick five bucks. In your heart you know that you would do anything for a man that truly loved you. It is okay if your date is short on cash now and again. It happens to us all.
